Everlasting Pen - The Story
When you read this, you have reached the start of something big. I want to take a moment to share with you the story behind what the Lord has called me to do and what I pray will come from this journey.
Since I was little, I loved reading, and as time went on, I developed a passion for writing. I wrote poetry, short stories, and even a novel. Yet, no matter what I created, nothing seemed to stick; nothing ever felt right. Despite many people asking, no one ever saw my writings, regardless of how good or bad they were. Over time, my passion for writing dwindled, and the thought of ever using my writing faded away. I felt certain that writing was just a chapter I would never actually get to explore. But God had different plans. Eventually, my passion for writing returned in a way I never thought possible. This time, my focus shifted from fictional stories and lovesick poetry to writing about the Lord. He filled me with a fire like I’d never felt before.
It was a Thursday night in August at my Young Adults group when the Lord worked a mighty miracle in my life. They made an altar call with a simple directive: write down how you felt or how you thought you were seen in the eyes of the world. You would write those words and lay them at the altar. But this act was a powerful image of what was happening—laying down those burdens, struggles, and identities at the feet of Jesus, letting them go. I can still remember the words I wrote: “Broken” and “Unlovable.” As I wrote, I felt a chain fall from my life. I heard the Lord say, “You are not broken, for I have healed you. You are my child, and you are loved. Nothing this world can say will ever change how I see you. Don’t forget, you are loved more than you can imagine. You are perfectly whole, and you are made righteous in my sight!”
That night, my entire world changed. My perspective on life, on the world, and on my past transformed. Until that point, I had let past hurts haunt me, allowing lies to creep in and believing things the Father never intended for me. I had been carrying that burden alone, but that night, He lifted it from my heart. I experienced a freedom that was beyond understanding, and there was no turning back. My pastor expressed it best: “At some point in our walk, we will want to turn everything over to Him. We won’t want what He doesn’t want.”
This was the beginning of my journey. I felt called to share how the burdens of my life were released and how others could experience that freedom as well. But my question became, how? I didn’t know how I was supposed to minister to others, but I knew I was called to. Then, one day, God simply said, “Write.” I wasn’t sure what to write or how it would unfold, but as I sat down, everything flowed. The words weren’t mine; they were the Spirit speaking through me. I knew then what I had to do.
However, fear arose. I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to write or share with others. I battled that fear until one Sunday morning when I heard, “You know your calling; now it is your job to act in obedience.” I had to leave my fears and worries at the feet of Jesus.
There is no looking back now. I know what I am called to do. I might not know what it will look like, but I trust the Lord and His Spirit to guide me along the way.
With that, I welcome you to the start of Everlasting Pen!
